Stakeholders’ workshop on PRDP held at Cam. Norte

Daet, Camarines Norte – The Department of Agriculture in partnership with the local government unit of Camarines Norte recently held the Stakeholders Workshop for the Philippine Rural Development Program in Camarines Norte at the Little Theater of the Capitol building. The workshop aimed to consult the stakeholders regarding issues, constraints, possible collaboration and potentials of the coco geonets in the province.
Governor Edgardo Tallado in his message said that the project will greatly help the province as more infrastructure will be constructed that will pave the way for farmers having access to nearby markets to sell their produce and ultimately will stir the economy of the province. He also said that it is one of the solutions in alleviating poverty in the province. He proudly reported that Camarines Norte has shed its image as one of the poor provinces because it has leaped to 52nd province in 2013 among the 85 provinces all over the country. He also pointed out that one of the reasons why poverty decreased is that agricultural production in the province have recovered after seven years with no typhoon.
Meanwhile, Director and Program Support Officer Luzon B Project Coordinator Shandy Hubilla said that he is optimistic that with the leadership of Governor Tallado the project will achieve its goal of realizing improved food security, increased incomes, climate resiliency and enhanced policy environment and governance. Hubilla disclosed that the total project cost is Ps 27.53 billion with Ps 20.55 billion from the World Bank, Ps 3.57 billion from the GOP, 3.118 billion equity of the local government units. He also thanked Governor Tallado for encouraging the PMIU to come up with the desired Feasibility Study.
VCA Consultant Jonah Nobleza presented the workshop agenda which include: the VCA findings, validation of the findings, discussion of the competitiveness vision, identification of the underlying causes and the potential solutions. Over 40 stakeholders attended the workshop. (mabelle roa-ilan)
