ANGELES CITY, Pampanga—The Program Support Office (PSO) led by Deputy Project Director Elma S. Mananes lauded Quirino governor Junie Cua for his drive to establish a sustainable coffee industry in the province through the help of the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) during a consultative meeting held on August 6 at the Eurotel in this city.

Recognizing the local government units’ (LGUs) vital role in the realization of the PRDP’s objective of uplifting the country’s agri-fishery sector, Mananes commended Gov. Cua for his active participation on the process of reviving Quirino’s coffee industry.

“You (LGU) are among the key players of this endeavor. You are the one who should first know what the agri-fishery sector in your locality needs. The PRDP is only here to extend our hand in any way we can,” Mananes stressed.

Gov. Cua allotted his whole day to sit with representatives from the Regional Program Coordinating Office-II (RPCO-II), headed by their focal person RTD Lorenzo Caranguian, and representatives from the Provincial Program Management and Implementing Unit (PPMIU) of Quirino on a round-table discussion to identify and address gaps of the proposed I-REAP and I-BUILD sub-projects to beef up coffee industry in the province.

Despite the identified remarkable improvement on the coffee industry for several years now and the existing government initiatives for the coffee market, there are still lots of work that need to be done through the intervention of the agriculture department and the PRDP.

While still in the process of completing the requirements mandated by the World Bank, Mananes urged the provincial government and the PPMIU to closely coordinate with the RPCO-II and PSO to help them meet the PRDP’s standards in time. (aurora catu)
