Date Published: March 9, 2018

“PRDP always recognizes the valuable role of women in agriculture and the society, in general.”

This was the theme message of Mindanao Director Ricardo M. Oñate, Jr. as the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) supports Women’s Month Celebration in the recent opening ceremony held in Braulio E. Dujali, Davao del Norte.

The activity organized by the Department of Agriculture RFO XI through its Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point system holds a month-long celebration of the National Women’s Month this March 2018 with the theme, “We Make Change, Work for Women”.

“Our projects always ensure that there are women participation. In fact, its enterprise component provides assistance to women through its ongoing subprojects in enterprise development and business aspect of farming, post-harvest handling and processing— tasks which have been typically managed by women in the country,” said Oñate.

It was a back-to-back activity for the municipality of Dujali since they were also celebrating their 4th Kaaraydan Festival, a local celebration in the town.

Director Oňate also took the opportunity to talk with the Dujali LGU officials in a small group discussion where he encouraged the LGU to propose projects for the town that could help improve the lives of farmers and they could tap PRDP for support. He also pointed out that proposals like enterprise development project for their organic rice would be ideal since it is also included in the list of Mindanao’s champion commodities. (Joy M.
