PRDP proposes small livelihood assistance for Nona-affected areas including Bicol
December 17, 2015
Bicol communities devastated by typhoon Nona will be among the proposed beneficiaries of Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP)-funded small livelihood projects (SLPs). This was announced by PRDP Project Support Office (PSO) South Luzon Director Shandy M. Hubilla during the 2nd PSO-Regional Project Coordination Office (RPCO)-Provincial Project Management and Implementation Unit (PPMIU) Year-End Assessment and Planning Workshop held on December 14-16, 2015 at The Village@San Bernardino in Calabanga, Camarines Sur.
According to Hubilla, PRDP Project Support Office South Luzon will formally request for financing from World Bank once the damage figures become final. These SLPs intend to capacitate farmers and fisherfolk in said areas for them to recover from the damage caused by typhoon Nona which lashed South Luzon particularly Albay, Sorsogon and Oriental Mindoro on December 14 and 15, 2015.
SLPs are agri-based and agribusiness subprojects that will serve as immediate sources of income for farmers and fishers in calamity-stricken areas. With PSO as the No Objection Letter (NOL) issuing office, PRDP will provide an enterprise project fund worth one million for SLPs under the Project’s I-REAP component.
At the said meeting, Hubilla also reported the PRDP South Luzon’s performance in terms of project management and coordination in 2015. As of December 10, Bicol has 14 approved sub-projects amounting to P1,116,181,096 and 17 pipelined sub-projects worth P1,968,247,943. Four sub-projects in the region are on-going construction while one sub-project has been issued with NOL 2. Moreover, 10 of the region’s sub-projects are under procurement.
Learning session and coaching per component as well as workshops on the Work and Financial Plan and Procurement Plan for 2016 were conducted. Initial plans for the 2nd PRDP Implementation Support Mission scheduled in April 2015 were also made.
The 2nd PSO-RPCO-PPMIU Year-End Assessment and Planning Workshop was attended by PSO, RPCO, PPMIU and municipal local government staff with on-going PRDP sub-projects in South Luzon.
PRDP is a six-year project being implemented by the Department of Agriculture designed to establish a modern, inclusive, value-chain oriented and climate-resilient agriculture and fisheries sector. (Annielyn L. Baleza, I-SUPPORT InfoACE Unit, DA-RAFIS 5)
