PRDP MIMAROPA emphasizes infra standards for two Palawan subprojects
Two farm-to-market roads (FMRs) funded by the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) will soon start to be constructed under the implementation of the Provincial Government of Palawan and City Government of Puerto Princesa.
Respectively, these are the 17.17-kilometer Concreting and Upgrading of Junction Salban-Culasian-Magsaysay FMR in the Municipality of Dumaran and 6.5-kilometer Construction of Maruyugon – Buenavista FMR in Puerto Princesa City.
On December 17 and 18, 2019, the I-BUILD and I-SUPPORT Components of the PRDP facilitated a Pre-Construction Conference for the said infrastructures in the presence of each implementing unit, contractor, and barangay representatives. Under I-SUPPORT, the Social and Environmental Safeguards Unit, Geomapping and Governance Unit, Procurement Unit, Finance Unit, and Monitoring and Evaluation Unit were present to discuss their particular terms and requirements.
In general, the purpose of the conference was to review and go over the technical standards and processes that the Project follows in the execution of its specific interventions, which in this case are both FMRs.
It was emphasized in one of the presentations that it is vital for the provincial and city government, as two independent and separate implementing entities, to understand the importance of complying and upholding the Project’s conditions to avoid delay both in the financial and actual progress of their subprojects.
The subproject contractors – Ivy Michelle Trading and Construction for the province and BCT Trading and Construction for the city – also had representatives who were able to clarify some concerns with the Project as well as answer inquiries from the barangay representatives according to their construction methodology.
The Junction Salban-Culasian-Magsaysay FMR in Dumaran and Maruyugon – Buenavista FMR in Puerto Princesa will address the lack of access road in the area to help cashew farmers bring inputs to their farms and market their produce later.
Each FMR is expected to benefit 1,488 and 1,305 households respectively – Leira Vic Colongon, DA-PRDP MIMAROPA RPCO InfoACE Unit
