Paving the Way to Progress in Surigao del Sur with EU Support

Date Published: February 9, 2023

On its 9th year in rural infrastructure development, DA-PRDP continues to build more roads in areas where challenges to transportation still exist.

The inspection and monitoring conducted by the joint PRDP PSO Mindanao, RPCO 13 I-BUILD team, and MLGU of San Agustin on February 9, 2023 on the site of the “Construction/Concreting of Buhisan Manumnum FMR” validated the need of the residents in Barangay Buhisan.

With funding from the Second Additional Financing and European Co-Financing Grant, the 3.9 kilometer farm-to-market road will soon bring the benefits of a world class road to the residents who have had to endure the challenges of transportation in their farming communities.

One such resident is 70 year-old resident Gorgonio Manigo who sells baskets he weaves from his harvested “uway” or rattan.

According to Manigo, it costs P500 per carabao to haul 60 pieces of bamboo which then would take a half day to reach his destination. With the construction of the concreted road, he looks forward to an easier and more affordable means of transportation for their goods.

The regular ground monitoring conducted by PRDP is one of the ways their IBUILD personnel keep track of the construction activities and coordinate with the contractor and local government officials on the different issues or challenges that arise at the early stages of project implementation.
