Zamboanga del Norte-  Baliguian town  expects more investors to come as Department of Agriculture Philippine Rural Development Project turned over the concreted farm to market road.

The P76 million worth infrastructure project covers a 6.5 kilometer concreted FMR with 9,702 direct beneficiaries in which 84% or 8,240 are indigenous people.

“Baliguian will soon be developed like Siayan. When the road network was concreted in Siayan, it turned into a bustling and progressive town from being one of the poorest municipalities in the country before. Many businesses have sprouted in their town because of the good road. Soon, you will also experience and enjoy the same benefit here in Baliguian,” said DA Regional Director Constancio G. Alama.

“DA provides good roads in rural areas to spur progress and development. Also, DA-PRDP does not only focus on infrastructure support to value chain of priority commodities, but on top of it, it has four banner programs such as rice, corn, livestock, and high value commercial crops,” Alama added.

This infrastructure project now provides safe mode of transportation and climate resilient and sustainable road linkage to the market and business centers within the road influence area. This covers the four barangays in Mamawan, Diculom, Mildan, and Malinao.

“Whatever products they produce from upland and coastal areas, they can now speedily bring them to the market. Farmers and fishermen can demand for good price since their produce is still fresh when it reaches the market,” said Alama.

Aside from the new FMR, the Municipality of Baliguian also provided other support to its farmer. According to Municipal Agriculturist Peter Molina, they recently distributed 15,000 cacao planting materials to their intended beneficiaries in Baliguian. (Remai S. Alejado/DA9)
