Two new infrastructure subprojects are to be set in motion in Quezon and Laguna as the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) Regional Project Advisory Board (RPAB) Calabarzon approved their funding and implementation under the DA-PRDP Scale-Up. The subprojects are a Farm-to-Market Road (FMR) in San Francisco, Quezon and a level II potable water system in Majayjay, Laguna.

The FMR in San Francisco, entitled Concreting of Sto. Niño-Huyon-Uyon Farm-to-Market Road will span a total of 10.58 km and will cost a total of PhP 249,857,000.00. It targets to benefit 7,686 individuals in two barangays, Sto. Niño and Huyon-uyon. Through the road, the San Francisco Local Government Unit (LGU) aims to provide convenience and relief in transportation, reduce travel costs, improve access to basic services and opportunities, and bolster the town toward economic development.

Meanwhile, the Rehabilitation and Improvement of Level II Potable Water System in Majayjay primarily aims to improve the quality of life of its beneficiaries hence encouraging agricultural productivity in the area. The subproject, costing PhP 90,181,808.71, will cater to eight barangays: Bakia, Bitaoy, Botocan, Gagalot, Isabang, Piit, Rizal, and Taytay. With its approval, the LGU hopes that the subproject will put an end to cases of diarrhea, gastritis, and abscess caused by unsanitary water in the communities. The LGU also hopes that the residents will have more time to engage in income-generating activities as the subproject will help reduce the time they spend in fetching water for their households.

“We are very happy to support and approve these subprojects because the benefits go beyond agriculture and fisheries, layunin din nitong tulungan ang mga taong umunlad sa kanilang mga komunidad by giving them access to basic resources and services and opportunities. With the approval of these subprojects, we hope to see more developments in the agriculture and fisheries sector and a reduction in poverty incidence in these communities,” shared DA Regional Field Office Calabarzon Executive Director and RPAB Chairperson Fidel Libao. #
