Baguio City – Aside from farm-to-market roads, the Cordillera Region has submitted stand alone subprojects such as communal irrigation systems, potable water systems, tramline system and slope stabilization works for funding under the Department of Agriculture’s Philippine Rural Development Project (DA PRDP).

Unanimously, members of the Regional Project Advisory Board (RPAB) in CAR endorsed 12  subprojects for  funding support in a recently concluded meeting held at the DA CAR Conference Hall.

“The RPAB had agreed that these subprojects are viable and expected to bring socio-economic impact and benefits to the beneficiaries and to the region as a whole,” said DA Regional Field Office CAR Executive Director Dr. Lorenzo M. Caranguian.

Dir. Caranguian disclosed that these subprojects have a total aggregate amount of P262,990,209.64  distributed as follows: Improvement of Sta. Maria-Mallig-Upper Atok Farm-to-market Road at Flora, Apayao (P198,061,000.00),Improvement of Bongbongna-Poitan Communal Irrigation System at Banaue (P7,363,000.00), Construction of Amchu-uy-Bae CIS at Banaue (P2,272,000.00), Improvement of Aparnga-o-Ki-iyang CIS at Banaue (P6,769,000.00), Construction of Slope Protection at Puguis, La Trinidad, Benguet (P10,793,000.00), Construction of Surek Tramline in Ekip, Bokod, Benguet (P3,912,000.00), Construction of Wakal Tramline in Nawal, Bokod, Benguet (P3,985,000.00), Construction of Talubin Level II Potable Water System(PWS) in Bontoc, Mountain Province, Improvement of MainitChorngowan PWS in Bontoc  (P7,000,000.00) and Improvement of Can-eo PWS also in Bontoc (P3,700,000.00).

“We encourage the provinces to propose more other infra subprojects like these presented today,” Dir. Caranguian urged.

Having explained that infrastructure funding for farm-to-market roads is already depleted, he stressed that other funds for other infrastructure such as potable water system and communal irrigation systems are eyed as priorities for funding under the PRDP.

The RPAB is composed of regional heads from different government agencies who review, provide suggestions and guidance, and finally approve subprojects that are worthy of endorsement to the higher level of approving bodies in the cluster or national level under the PRDP.
