The year 2024 is off to a great start for farmers in Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro as two infrastructure subprojects from the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) are completed and ready for usage in support of the coconut and swine industry in the municipality.

The Concreting and Opening of Sta. Isabel Farm-to-Market Road (FMR) is a 2.5-kilometer access road which aims to decrease transport cost and time of more than 6,000 farmers around the FMR’s Road Influence Area (RIA). This PhP50 million-worth investment supports the virgin coconut oil and cardava banana commodities in the area.

On the other hand, the Construction of Pinamalayan Slaughterhouse AA is another PhP50 million-worth investment for more than 18,000 hog raisers, meat processors, farmers, and livestock players in the municipality. The opening of the said slaughterhouse is expected to raise food safety and quality of meat not just in Pinamalayan but in the whole country as well. Currently, the Pinamalayan Slaughterhouse aims to test the waters through serving the market in the province before distributing to neighboring provinces.

These two infrastructure subprojects are part of the nine (9) completed I-BUILD subprojects in the province. These PhP482 million-worth of investments serve more than 80,000 farmers in Oriental Mindoro. # (Danica A. Brutas, DA-PRDP MIMAROPA RPCO InfoACE Unit)
