Coco geonet weavers of the Malingao Community Services Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MCOCO) in Tubod, Lanao del Norte brave the heat of the afternoon sun at the MCOCO’s nipa leaves-roofed makeshift weaving facility. With funding assistance under the Department of Agriculture’s Philippine Rural Development Development Project (DA-PRDP), the facility will soon be upgraded into a sturdy permanent structure that meets occupational health and safety standards. The P24 million-worth subproject, which includes the cooperative’s equity, will also cover the procurement of decorticating and twining machines, as well as a forklift truck, among others.
