Ilocos Region PPMIUs Update PCIPs for Goat, Peanut and Onion Commodities
Dagupan City, Pangasinan – After the recent World Bank Supervision Mission in La Union, the Ilocos Region provinces’ Provincial Project Management and Implementation Units (PPMIUs) gathered to update and review their respective Provincial Commodity(ies) Investment Plans(PCIPs) for goat, peanut, and onion commodities in a workshop at the Leisure Coast Resort on February 12, 2015.
Prior to updating their respective PCIPs, the PPMIUs reviewed the constraints, opportunities and interventions listed in the various priority commodities’ value chain analyses (VCAs) with RPCO 1 IPLAN Head Doris Garcia; and revisited the Expanded Vulnerability and Suitability Assessment (EVSA) process with RPCO 1 Geomapping and Governance Unit (GGU) Head Deo Rivera.
During the workshop, Luzon A Program Support Office (PSO) Investments in AFMP Planning at the Local and National Levels (IPLAN) Component Head Ariel Briones reminded the PPMIUs that the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) is not the sole fund source of interventions in the PCIP. He explained that the PCIP aims to involve the private sector and interlink government projects to develop markets for the prioritized commodities. The IPLAN component, he said, is not just the planning of interventions for the PRDP but planning the development of the entire Agri-Fishery sector.
The updating of PCIPs is contributory to the “correct and efficient” implementation of PRDP. They will provide the bases of subproject proposals under the Intensified Building Up of Infrastructure and Logistics Development (IBUILD) and Investments on Rural Enterprises for Agri-Fishery Productivity (IREAP) components. Ultimately, the PCIP is a holistic set of interventions that will improve small farmers’ way of living.
All Ilocos Region PPMIUs will submit their updated PCIPs to the Regional Project Coordination Office (RPCO) for the goat, peanut and onion commodities on March 2015.(Ilocos InfoACE)
