Hog, broiler chicken industry stakeholders gather for VCA consultation
The Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) Central Luzon (RPCO 3) gathered the stakeholders of the broiler chicken industry on May 9, 2023 and the hog industry on May 16, 2023 in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga, for a consultation on the Value Chain Analysis (VCA) of the said commodities.
Stakeholders from the LGUs and the private sector were invited to validate and provide recommendations on the identified constraints, interventions, and opportunities based on the conducted data gathered from the VCA for the said commodities by the DA-PRDP, led by the national and local planning component, I-PLAN.
The VCA involves the analysis of the processes and players that add value to a product. It focuses on creating value along the full range of activities that are required to bring a product or service from conception, through the different phases of production, delivery to final customers, and final disposal after use. It is used in the preparation of the Provincial Commodity Investment Plan which serves as the main basis of identifying and developing I-BUILD (infrastructure) and I-REAP (enterprise) subprojects.
Through the VCA, priority interventions are identified to strengthen links in the commodity value chain. Therefore, government resources are efficiently allocated by providing funds to priority programs needed to be implemented to enhance the competitiveness and/or productivity of the selected commodities.
The VCA for broiler chicken being led by the DA-RPDP RPCO 3 I-PLAN Component Head Noli C. Sambo covers the chicken industry within the region while the VCA for hog being led by the DA-PRDP North Luzon Cluster Project Support Office (PSO Luzon A) I-PLAN Component Head William Valdez extends over the four regions in the cluster, namely, CAR, Regions 1, 2, and 3)
