Geonet: from waste to anti-soil erosion technology
A member of the Tunay Tapat Lahing Pilipino Cooperative (TTLPC)preparing fiber from coconut husks for twining. From a threat to the environment by clogging rivers, discarded husks are now made into valuable geonet that provides livelihood to unemployed residents of Libon, Albay, particularly women. The recently approved P7.6-million enterprise development subproject under the Department of Agriculture’s Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) will provide a steady income for the 95 members of TTLPC, and indirect livelihoods to the residents of 30 nearby barangays.
