Financial aid granted to Negros Occidental hog raisers, farmers

Happy smiles are etched on the faces of hog raisers and farmers in northern Negros Occidental after the release of the financial grant from the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) amounting to Php1.084 million worth of livelihood assistance last February 27, 2017.

The two associations granted of the assistance are the Swine Breeding Enterprise, and the Rehabilitation of Sericulture Project – both of which are small livelihood projects under the Enterprise Development component (I-REAP) of the DA-PRDP.

The Bayabas-Proper Hog Raisers Association of Brgy. Daga, Cadiz City and Calatrava Sericulture Farmers Association for its silk production project received Php703,296 and Php381,452, respectively.

Present during the turnover ceremony were Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo G. Marañon Jr., Provincial Project Management and Implementing Unit (PPMIU) Assistant Head Dr. Narissa Lemoncito and PPMIU I-REAP Component Head Lucille Gelvolea. Representatives from the two associations led by Bayabas-Proper Hog Raisers Association president Nonito Cueva and Calatrava Sericulture Farmers Association president Conrado Empinado were also present to receive the check on behalf of their associations.

The PRDP enterprise subprojects are under a counterpart scheme of 60-20-20 between the government of the Philippines, provincial/local government and the World Bank as its funding agency.

Governor Marañon previously said that DA-PRDP is a huge leap forward to development that forwards the lives of the residents of Negros Occidental.  (September Noon A. Macahilo, PSO Visayas, InfoACE)
