Citing the fact that Region 8 went under a disheartening situation caused by several typhoons resulting to severe damages to the agricultural sector, Department of Agriculture-8 Regional Executive Director Leo P. Cañeda called on for additional funding on infrastructure and livelihood under the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP).

“If there is one region in the country that is badly in need for more agricultural infrastructure support and livelihood assistance, it is Region 8,” said Cañeda during the recently held PRDP Regional Project Coordination Office 8’s (RPCO) 1st Quarter Coordination Meeting at the DA Conference Room B, Kanhuraw Hill, Tacloban City.

This came during the orientation of the RPCO 8 newly-hired staff of the core purpose and responsibilities of PRDP. Moreover, the importance of teamwork was also given emphasis as a major ingredient for succesfull project implemsamar 1entation through several team-building activities.

“The challenge is enormous for Region 8. As project implementers, we should know our job and, how it relates to a greater scheme of things. It is important that we should have common understanding about the project. We should not lose sight of its objectives. We may have a lot of activities being undertaken but in the end, our performance will be measured against how we fared relative to attaining the objectives of the project. We should therefore prove ourselves equal to the challenge,” he stressed.

PRDP is a six-year project being implemented by the DA which aims to provide key infrastructure and enterprise development interventions to raise incomes, productivity and competitiveness in the countryside. It is jointly funded by the World Bank, national government and participating local government units. (Rodel G. Macapanas, InfoACE, RPCO 8)
