DA-PRDP set Php6.0M for Native Chicken Production in Aklan

Iloilo City – The Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) has allocated a total of Php 6,137,500.00 for the restocking and production of native chicken in the municipalities of Madalag and Banga, Aklan.

This project will benefit poultry raisers who were very much affected by the super typhoon Yolanda in 2013.Ms. Ma. Theresa Solis said that the project will restore the livelihood of animal raising families in the six barangays of Madalag and Banga, Aklan.

“The beneficiaries will be given upgraded stocks and will be taught on native chicken production technology and marketing.” Solis added.

The project will further address low production caused by mortalities and poor cultural practices, unemployment, profitability and sustainability to meet the increasing demand in the market.

Solis explained that each beneficiary will receive one module consisting of breeder stocks, nets, drinkers, veterinary logistics and feeds amounting to Php18,500.00.

She said that a total of 200 modules will be given to first-in-line beneficiaries who will counterpart a housing facility for the native chickens.

Meanwhile, Mr. William B. Castillo, I-REAP component Head for the province of Aklan said that the province has already allocated counterpart funds for the project.

He said that Governor Florencio T. Miraflores is all out support for other DA-PRDP projects in the province such as the development of oysters and mussels and abacca in the highland municipalities.

Repayment of the project will be through turning over of breeder chicken by the first-in-line beneficiaries to the succeeding beneficiaries wherein the association will be providing financial assistance on the next operating year.

The project will saturate the markets in the municipality, market traders and other institutional buyers in the island of Boracay and neighboring provinces. (JEEO/RAFID 6/InfoACE RPCO 6)
