April 23, 2014—Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala and Capiz Governor Victor Tanco signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the implementation of Philippine Rural Development Program (PRDP) in the province on April 11, 2014 at Roxas Gymnasium.

The said MoA aims to bolster the participation and commitment of Capiz in the successful implementation of PRDP.

PRDP Deputy Program Director Arnel V. de Mesa said that Capiz is one of the priority provinces under the Program since it was badly hit by typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) in November last year.

However, at present, the province has initially proposed a farm-to-market road (FMR) with bridge expanding to  27 kilometers to cover the municipalities of Pontevedra and Maayon.

The proposed FMR worth P20 million will be undertaken under the I-BUILD component of the PRDP, with cost sharing of 80-10-10, wherein 80 percent (%) of the total project cost will be financed under the loan proceeds, and the remaining 20% will be shouldered by the Department of Agriculture and local government equally.

Among the province’s priority commodities  are muscovado, abaca, coconut, seafood, high value vegetables, poultry, and livestock.

The ceremonial MoA-signing coincides with the 7th Farmers’ and Fisherfolk’s Day in the province. (Catherine Nanta, InfoACE-NPCO)
