Cagayan de Oro City – For the efficient implementation of Department of Agriculture’s Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP), the Regional Project Coordinating Office (RPCO) in Region 10 conducted a two-day technical training on Expanded Vulnerability and Suitability Assessment (E-VSA) tool with geo-mapping last December.

E-VSA is a critical planning tool used by PRDP in the ranking of municipalities to assess its suitability to specific commodity, its vulnerability to typhoon, flooding and drought, as well as the socio economic conditions of a particular area.

Participated in by provincial local government units (PLGUs) and DA 10’s planning team, the training aims to equip them with sufficient knowledge of the tool to come up with an updated Provincial Commodity Investment Plan (PCIP) in January 2016.

On one hand, the use of geomapping technology provides geographical data of the influence area of projects like farm-to-market roads, bridges, irrigation systems, and used in monitoring progress to promote good governance and transparency in project implementation.

“This training is a very important because we will be using this tool in crafting project proposals for PRDP,” said DA 10 Assistant Regional Director Roxana Hojas.

Hojas explained that the PRDP proposals is based on the PCIP which seeks for the development of the region’s priority commodities identifying interventions based on value chain analysis (VCA) and E-VSA.
