Construction of P96.67-M FMR in Besao, Mt. Province starts

MOUNTAIN PROVINCE – Implemented under the Department of Agriculture’s Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP), the construction works for the 8.94-kilometer Besao-Nacawang road section with a project cost of P96.67 million formally started.

The Besao-Nacawang section is part of the Besao-Nacawang and Tadian-Mabalite Farm-to-Market Road (FMR) subproject with a total length of 20.1km amounting close to P200 million.

In its aim to increase the production area for coffee, heirloom rice and sugarcane among others thru ease of access and utilization of forest and idle lands, the Provincial Local Government led the ground breaking rites for the Improvement of the Besao-Nacawang road section on October 19, 2017 in Banguitan, Besao, Mt. Province.

On deck to lay the capsule were the LGU officials led by Gov. Bonifacio Lacwasan Jr. and DA-CAR Regional Executive Director Lorenzo M. Caranguian, followed by the municipal and barangay officials from directly affected areas headed by Besao municipal mayor Johnson Bantog, Jr.

“This project is the result of every one’s effort” said Bantog, as he expressed his gratitude to the Project and to the province for making it a reality, the vision of every local in Besao.

Caranguian, in his message, acknowledged the turning points that the province has gone through for the implementation of the FMR subproject.

He emphasized the roles of the beneficiaries specifically in the maintenance of the road and in ensuring that construction works are properly done without delay.

Gov. Lacwasan also talked about the importance of hosting ground breaking ceremonies as an inaugural activity for the safe implementation of the project that will eventually lead to the connectivity of towns neighbouring with Besao.

Meanwhile, as their commitment to the subproject’s implementation, community elders assured to help in the monitoring and maintenance of the road. (Elvy S. Taquio, CARPCO InfoACE Unit)
