Buenavista to boost agri production with new FMR

Buenavista, a third class municipality in Quezon Province, will soon experience the benefits of having more paved roads as the town on April 20 broke ground for the construction of a 12-kilometer farm-to-market road (FMR) with the fund support from the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP).

The P120-million worth road project will pave dirt roads in the barangays of Cadlit, Manlana, Mabutag, and Cawa. With this FMR, the agricultural produce from the said barangays will reach the market faster and fresher, which will then contribute to the increase in the income of farmers.

“This road concreting project will answer the woes of farmers in remote communities of Buenavista who have a hard time transporting their vegetables, fruits, and other farm produce due to poor condition of the road network,” Department of Agriculture–CALABARZON Regional Director Arnel De Mesa said during the groundbreaking rite.

Buenavista Mayor Alexander Rivera urged the subproject beneficiaries to take good care of road project, since it is a big help not only to farmers, but also to their families and the rest of the community. The 10 percent subproject equity will be shouldered by the local government unit, while the rest will come from the PRDP loan proceeds (80%), and the national government (10%).

Land donors were recognized for their contribution to the realization of the road subproject.

Some of the project beneficiaries also shared their aspirations on the new road. For Chairperson Ronilo Roldan of Brgy. Manlana, the dream of having a better road for their community is now within reach.

PRDP representatives were optimistic that the road rehabilitation and concreting subproject will be done on time so that the farmers and other residents can immediately enjoy its benefits.

Aside from the groundbreaking rite, a pre-construction conference was also conducted with representatives from the PRDP, municipal and barangay officials, project beneficiaries as well as the winning contractor, the Edison Development Corporation.

PRDP-CALABARZON RIE Joel Fuentes answers some questions about the road preparation during the pre-construction conference.

The groundbreaking was also attended by the PRDP South Luzon Project Support Office Director Shandy Hubilla and PRDP CALABARZON Regional Project Coordination Office Deputy Director Felix Ramos. ### (Lawrence Albert Bariring, CALABARZON RPCO InfoACE Unit, and Bryan Arcilla, DA-CALABARZON Information Section)
