Davao City — The Department of Agriculture (DA) will request the World Bank (WB) for additional $500 million in funding for the six-year Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) because its budget for infrastructure projects is expected to run out even before the end of next year.

Arnel De Mesa, PRDP national deputy project director, said yesterday in a press conference at Royal Mandaya Hotel that at present, the program is short of P11 billion to fund all the proposed infrastructure projects.

Under the six year-project that started in June last year, De Mesa said the budget for infrastructure component is P18.3 billion. “We need as additional fund as we could not finance other approved projects beyond that allotted budget,” he said, pointing out that the needed budget for all the infrastructure projects submitted to the program has reached to P29 billion.
