Mindanao LCEs vow to support PRDP
Davao City — Newly elected local chief executives vow to continue support and implement the projects under the government and World Bank’s agenda to modernize agriculture.
Davao Oriental Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang said his administration will support the implementation of the Department of Agriculture’s Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) which has benefited the province in the past years.
“We will continue especially those which have been started by the previous administration and even those at the pipeline,” Dayanghirang said during the Mati City leg of PRDP Information Caravan held recently.
“If there are problems, we will find solution to make (the implementation) successful,” he added.
Mindanao Regional Project Coordinating Offices (RPCO) of PRDP are conducting simultaneous Information Caravan across the six regions of Mindanao to ensure that local officials both newly elected and those with fresh mandate sustain the partnership with local government units.
Gov. Anthony del Rosario supports the same sentiment as Davao del Norte remains among the top implementing province of PRDP. Former Gov. Roldofo del Rosario, the father of the present governor, was a staunch supporter of project way back its predecessor program the Mindanao Rural Development Project.
In Caraga Region, DA Regional Executive Director Renato Manantan spearheaded the five-day info caravan and LCE re-orientation, covering Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Surigao Provinces and Province Dinagat Island.
“This activity not only allows us to be refreshed and updated about PRDP, but also a venue to resolve issues and concerns on project implementation,” said Caraga Information chief Head Emmylou Presilda.
The information caravan was participated in by the provincial board members on agriculture, city/municipal mayors of the provinces, city/municipal councilors on agriculture and the Provincial/Municipal Project Management and Implementation Units all over the region.
“It is true that the process of availing a subproject under PRDP is tough and the requirements take time to be complied with, but we still remain patient and determined to effect improvements in our municipality,” said Mayor Leonida Manpatilan of Esperanza, Agusan del Sur.
There are already five farm-to-market road projects that are under implementation in the towns of Kitcharao, Agusan del Norte and Talacogon, Esperanza, and Veruela, Agusan del Sur.
Under the enterprise development component for Caraga region, PRDP has already approved the P32 million Integrated Abaca Enhancement Enterprises in Santiago, Agusan del Norte. While another four projects amounting to a total of P65 million are in the pipeline including the production, processing and marketing of rubber for Agusan del Sur and Cassava for for the Province of Dinagat Islands. Two additional enterprise projects on banana and rubber in Agusan del Norte within the year.
Over in SOCSKSARGEN Region, OIC-Regional Executive Director Carlene Collado gathered on August 22, LCEs and representatives from 17 municipalities and lone city of Cotabato province for a PRDP Orientation in Kidapawan City.
M’lang Mayor Atty. Russel Abonado and Banisilan Mayor Jesus Alisasis led the participants in the discussion.
Cotabato’s priority commodities are: rubber, coconut, organic rice, banana, coffee, cacao, and oil palm.
Under the Investments In Rural Enterprise and Agriculture and Fisheries Productivity(I-REAP) component of PRDP, the North Cotabato province has an on-going enterprise project which is the P14.9 Million Rubber Sheet Processing and Marketing Project in Aleosan town.
The province also bears two proposed subprojects, P5-M and P2.5-M of Organically Grown Rice Projects.
For proposed microenterprises for calamity-stricken areas, Cotabato has 26 proponent groups out of 40 for SOCCSKSARGEN.
While under the Intensified Building-Up of Infrastructure and Logistics for Development (I-BUILD) component, Cotabato has four on-going FMR subprojects worth P112-M and five more subprojects worth P132.3-M which are under procurement.
