Davao City – Information officers from the national and regional DA offices gathered here recently to come up with better strategies in beefing up advocacy and promotional efforts for the Philippine Rural Development Project.
The coordination meeting of the Information, Advocacy, Communication and Education or InfoACE unit was aimed at crafting a uniform strategic communications plan that will be mainstreamed from the national to regional levels.
The communications plan details specific programs and activities, which require the use of multi-media channels such as publication and production of information and audio-visual materials and the PRDP website.
“The challenge for information officers is in communicating the positive features of the Project and ensuring that messages conveyed to various audiences and PRDP stakeholders are consistent,” PRDP Mindanao cluster director Lealyn Ramos said.
She said that information support on innovations hatched in the Project like geotagging and the use of scientific tools should be strengthened to sustain the institutional reforms that PRDP aims to mainstream at the national and local levels.
PRDP NPCO InfoACE Unit Head Cheryl Suarez discusses communication platforms to be utilized by the unit to promote PRDP innovations.
The InfoACE group also discussed a draft PRDP Style Guide that will serve as a reference point for various press and multi-media materials. The group also agreed on the conduct of an intensive writing workshop that will serves as both a refresher course and training for new staff.
Other activities during the four-day meeting included lectures on grassroots communication and right angling of PRDP news stories. The group also visited the site of the cacao beans production and marketing project in Brgy. Subasta, Calinan.
