The Investments for Rural Enterprise and Agricultural Productivity (I-REAP) group of the Philippine Rural Development Project conducted a final round of review of business plans for approval of the national project coordination office (NPCO) and World Bank.

In a joint technical review meeting held recently, proponent groups from various regions in Mindanao presented revised business proposals on the development of various priority commodities such as cacao, abaca, coffee and oil palm.

“The proposals focus on the enhancement of productivity of existing enterprises and improvement of marketing strategies to elevate farmer groups and cooperatives into the next level of value chain,” PRDP Mindanao project director Lealyn Ramos said.

Proponent groups from Davao City, Davao del Norte and Zamboanga del Norte presented their business plans on cacao development, which highlights the production of cacao beans and strengthening of marketing arrangements with existing cacao buyers.

Partnerships with cacao development groups like ACDI VOCA was also encouraged particularly in the establishment of nurseries for cacao seedlings.

Proponent groups from Sarangani, South Cotabato and Maguindanao presented enhanced business plans on abaca, coffee and oil palm, respectively, with focus on the enhancement of production technology.

Ramos said that the business plans undergo a review from PRDP’s Mindanao project support office (PSO) before they are submitted for a final round of review from the NPCO and World Bank. (Jay M. Rosas/PSO Mindanao)
