DA-PRDP provides clean, safe water to Lias folks

Residents of barangays Lias Kanluran and Lias Silangan in Barlig, Mountain Province are now assured of enjoying a safe and accessible water after the completion of the Lias Potable Water System (PWS) Level II.
The PhP6.85 million-worth PWS subproject was implemented under the Department of Agriculture-Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) and the Municipal Local Government Unit of Barlig.
It comprises 3 concrete tanks, 18 tap stands, and an 11-kilometer pipe lines benefiting the two barangays.
Officially completed on February 19, 2024 the PWS subproject was formally turned over on April 3, 2024 at barangay Lias Kanluran, Barlig, Mountain Province.
The turnover ceremony was led by Barlig Mayor Clark C. Ngaya and DA Regional Technical Director (RTD) for Research and Regulations Dr. Arlene Sagayo, together with the subproject contractor and the barangay officials of Lias Kanluran and Lias Silangan. Several officials and staff from the DA and the Municipal LGU of Barlig also graced the event.
During the program, RTD Dr. Sagayo underscored the importance of ensuring the sustainability of the PWS subproject.
“Access to clean and safe drinking water is a fundamental human right, and our project plays a vital role in providing this essential resource to communities in need,” she said.
RTD Dr. Sagayo also cited some key strategies that the community can implement to guarantee a long term success of the project such as community engagement, monitoring and evaluation, financial sustainability, and capacity development.
As he expressed his gratitude for the realization of the PWS subproject, Mayor Ngaya urged the involvement of all the community members to take part in the maintenance of the completed subproject.
The Punong Barangays also conveyed their commitments towards the proper use and maintenance of the PWS.
“Haan laeng nga sika ti beneficiary na daytoy nga project ngem amin nga taga Lias. As early as now, kitaen tayo dagiti responsibilities tayo, jay disiplina tayo la unay iti panag usar na daytoy nga proyekto (You are not the only beneficiary of this subproject, but all the residents of Lias. As early as now, let us be mindful of our responsibilities, let us be disciplined),” said Lias Kanluran Punong Barangay Romeo F. Amawan, adding that the residents of Lias will ultimately work together in taking good care of the project.
The PWS subproject is now serving more than 270 households in Lias.
