Juliana C. Salibad, manager of Daram Cudal Multi-Purpose Cooperative (DCMPC), is a true embodiment of a woman of inspiration and resilience in the agriculture and cooperative sector. Her story of how she founded the cooperative from the ground up shows what unwavering dedication and perseverance can make.

Juliana, 63, is a devoted mother of seven children. Despite the demands of motherhood and family life, she took on a heavy challenge to help uplift her community through cooperative ventures.

Her journey in establishing DCMPC was not without its obstacles. Before DCMPC, she attempted to build three cooperatives, all of which failed to prosper, but her grit remained undeterred. She recalled how she used to juggle paperwork while taking care of her children in pursuit of turning her big dream into reality.

In 1998, her dream finally came to fruition when DCMPC was formed, with 25 founding members, composed mostly of her relatives. She served as the chairman for the first year before becoming the manager in October 1999, a position she holds with passion and dedication to this day.

Juliana’s strong determination and refusal to succumb to negativity propelled DCMPC forward. Her leadership ensured the survival of the cooperative amidst challenges. She, with no doubt, has been instrumental in its success. Under her supervision, the cooperative has flourished significantly, offering a range of financial services and support programs to its members.

In 2000, the cooperative marked a significant milestone as they were able to secure a credit line from Landbank worth Php 300,000, a feat that not only helped them thrive but also inspired other cooperatives in their area.

Through innovative initiatives, DCMPC received a Banana Cardava Consolidation and Marketing enterprise from the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) in 2021, worth Php 13M pesos, which included a building, working capital, trucks, and other necessary equipment.

This enterprise support prompted the membership growth, that comes from Paracelis, Tanudan, Tabuk, and neighboring municipalities.

Juliana’s vision for community development and empowerment also comes with a mission to support indigenous culture and tradition. With 90% of DCMPC’s membership belonging to indigenous communities, the cooperative has made it a cultural obligation to promote and market traditional attire to support local weavers.

Juliana’s story is a testament to the difference one can achieve with strong determination and perseverance. She embodies the spirit of Women’s Month, celebrating women in any sector, who lead, inspire and make a difference.
