I-PLAN Bicol and PPMIU Camarines Norte initiate a Joint Technical Review for the updated PCIP for pineapple

Date Published: July 11, 2023

The Provincial Project Management Implementation Unit (PPMIU) of Camarines Norte, in collaboration with I-PLAN Bicol, conducted a Joint Technical Review for pineapple to amend the Provincial Commodity Investment Plan (PCIP) for the updated value chain for pineapple on May 11, 2023. The PCIP was approved and issued a No Objection Letter (NOL) on March 14, 2023.

Representatives from the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg), and Provincial Planning and Development Office Camarines Norte attended to present their support and initiatives for the pineapple commodity.

In addition, as part of the celebration of Farmers and Fisherfolks Month, Benedicto Palmares, the chairman of the Provincial Agriculture and Fisheries Council (PAFC) of Camarines Norte, also attended the gathering. He talked about the challenges that farmers of pineapples frequently have when establishing and maintaining their plants. He also spoke about their difficulties when selling their gathered pineapples in the market.

The previous PCIP only focused on pineapple as food, but the revised PCIP for pineapple expanded its scope to include the pineapple fiber industry since it has much market potential.

With the Joint Technical review, key stages and activities in the pineapple value chain can help identify opportunities for efficiency improvement, quality enhancement, and value addition.

The value chain analysis of pineapple encompasses various stages, from cultivation to consumption, each contributing to the product’s overall quality, efficiency, and value. By identifying areas for improvement within this value chain, stakeholders can enhance productivity, reduce costs, maintain product integrity, and ultimately provide consumers with a delightful pineapple experience from farm to table. # (Michelle Angela G.
