The value chain analysis (VCA) is a vital tool used by the DA PRDP to identify priority interventions for specific commodities, such as abaca.
With this, a combined team from PSO Mindanao and RPCO 12 I-PLAN and M&E conducted a value chain analysis for abaca together with the Provincial Project Management and Implementing Unit (PPMIU), Office of the Provincial Agriculture (OPAG), budget and engineering on June 13, 2023 in the Province of Sarangani.
The assessment and mainstreaming of the VCA on abaca focused on evaluating the catalytic impact of interventions implemented in the Provincial Commodity Investment Plan (PCIP) through key informant interviews (KII) with key stakeholders.
Assistant Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Jelyn E. Apura, ENP. emphasized the significance of PCIP and VCA as crucial tools for identifying and prioritizing appropriate interventions for each champion commodity.
“These tools are essential. The VCA enables us to identify the needs, concerns, and recommendations, allowing us to address the gaps effectively,” Apura stated. “Furthermore, the list of investments in the PCIP is included in the long-term development investment program of the province, making it a funding priority.” (Joy Montecalvo, PSO Mindanao)
