Water system subproject in Barlig gets nod from the DA-PRDP for bidding
The Municipal Local Government of Barlig in Mountain Province can now proceed with the bidding of the proposed construction of Lias Potable Water System (PWS) after receiving the greenlight from the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP).
Through the DA-PRDP Regional Project Coordination Office – Cordillera Administrative Region (RPCO-CAR), the PWS subproject was formally issued with a No Objection Letter 1 (NOL 1) on August 16, 2022, allowing the proponent LGU to proceed with the bidding process.
Springs have been the main source of water for the residents of barangays Lias Silangan and Lias Kanluran, but not enough to supply the needs of these communities especially during dry season. And during rainy season, the scarcity of safe and clean water becomes a problem and the cases of water-borne diseases increase.
The Level II PWS subproject is expected to benefit more than 270 households in Barlig.
With a project cost of PhP6.86 million, the subproject includes the construction of an intake-tank, a distribution tank, and the installation of pipeline distribution network in these communities.
To assist the MLGU in the bidding process, the RPCO-CAR recently conducted a procurement orientation on August 23, 2022 in Barlig.
While PRDP’s main focus is ensuring development of priority commodities with relevant enterprises and infrastructures, the Project also recognizes the complementing role of healthy communities to make these investments sustainable. (By Elvy T. Estacio (Writer, DA-PRDP RPCO-CAR InfoACE Unit)
