To strengthen the collaboration of its Knowledge Management (KM) Core Team, the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) Regional Project Coordination Office (RPCO) Bicol conducted a Training and Workshop on Knowledge Management (KM) System on October 29, 2021 at the DA Regional Field Office Compound in Pili, Camarines Sur.

The activity was aimed to enhance the team’s knowledge and skills in KM products development, build their collaborative relationship, and deepen their commitment for the PRDP-Bicol’s KM production and dissemination efforts.

In her Welcome Message, DA-PRDP RPCO Bicol Deputy Project Director Adelina Losa reiterated the World Bank’s recommendations to converge efforts in establishing the Project’s KM system as it is “at an important phase for refining and consolidating its KM strategy” to promote the development of new strategies, scale up as well as replicate, adopt, mainstream and institutionalize critical knowledge like best practices, innovations, and lessons learned.

DA Bicol Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information Section (RAFIS) Chief and Information, Advocacy, Communication and Education (InfoACE) Unit Head Emilia Bordado lectured on “Developing a Knowledge Management System for DA-PRDP,” which included discussions about the DA-PRDP’s KM program, the importance of knowledge management, KM framework, organizational knowledge management, and the elements of the KM process.

Bordado underscored the importance of managing knowledge generated from research and from the field or ground, and converting them into a high-valued asset that will benefit project partners and stakeholders. She added that KM products contain a wealth of information, and can be a source of inspiration, as they testify about the Project’s efforts and the support it has established with different partners and stakeholders.

The RPCO Bicol InfoACE Unit, who is at the forefront of implementing the KM strategy together with the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit (M&E), facilitated the workshops on Knowledge Audit of Critical Knowledge and Knowledge Creation and Production Proposal. The KM Core Team also started the development of a multimedia e-library containing knowledge products, photo bank, and video gallery for the DA-PRDP.

KM Focal Persons and representatives from each component and unit of RPCO Bicol attended the activity. KM refers to a multidisciplinary approach and process of creating, sharing, using, and managing an organization’s knowledge and information to achieve organizational objectives. (Annielyn L.
