Developed Geodata Organizer by RPCO 1 introduced to LGUs and contractors

The Geomapping and Governance Unit (GGU) of the Regional Project Coordination Office 1 (RPCO1) developed a Geodata Organizer which was shared to the Project’s GGU staff in March 2017.

To maximize the use of the geodata organizer and encourage the partner Local Government Units and Contractors with ongoing subprojects under the Philippine Rural Development Project to use the system, the RPCO 1 GGU conducted training on the utilization of the system in managing, monitoring, and presenting geotagged photos. The training was held at the 3rd Floor Conference Room of the Department of Agriculture Building, Aguila Rd., Sevilla, San Fernando City, La Union, July 10-11, 2017.

During the training, the implementing LGUs and contractors were registered in the geodata organizer for them to be able to access the system features. The system allows the user to store geotagged photos and organize them according to date and location. Likewise, users can view images in the system directory categorized by station, by year, and by month.

As the Geodata Organizer stores geotagged photos, sorts them by month, year, and segment, it can compare images by station. RPCO 1 GGU Head Mr. Deo Rivera said that viewing the images using the geodata organizer gives the feeling of actually walking through the subproject site.

Aside from storage and viewing features, the system also generates a billing certification stating that the physical progress of the subproject has been properly geotagged. This certification is required for the contractors to collect payment from the PRDP.

The geotagging technology is an established monitoring tool under the PRDP. Each infrastructure and enterprise subproject is required to be geotagged every now and then to assure the adherence to the standards set by the Project.  As there are hundreds of geotagged photos per subproject, the data organizer will make managing geotagged pictures easier.

At present, only the geodata organizer for infrastructure subprojects is available. The geodata organizer for enterprise subprojects is still being finalized by the RPCO 1 GGU.

The Geodata Organizer is expected to be used by all implementing LGUs and participating contractors of the PRDP in the near future. ### (Dessa U. Estrada, RPCO1 InfoACE Unit)
