La Trinidad gets PRDP support for three slope protection
Farmers in the outskirts of La Trinidad town will soon benefit from the construction of slope protection measures under the Department of Agriculture’s Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP).
Erosions and road closures are common during rainy season causing postharvest losses by which farmers are discouraged to transport their agricultural products to the market.
With support from the PRDP in coordination with the Provincial Local Government of Benguet, the effects of such events will soon be minimized.
Grouted riprap wall as slope protection measures will be constructed in three barangays in the outskirts of La Trinidad – Alapang, Alno and Beckel.
With a total project cost of P4, 086,000.00 benefiting around 878 households, two grouted riprap walls will be constructed in barangay Alapang particularly in sitio Ettong (260.40m3) and Proper Alapang (532.25m3).
Three more grouted riprap walls will also be constructed in barangay Alno (349.85m3) with a project cost of P1, 763,000.00 benefiting around 488 households; and in barangay Beckel particularly in sitio Balangabang (1590.257m3) with P8, 013, 000.00 project cost and 766 households beneficiaries.
The construction of slope protection measures in these areas are expected to protect the agricultural and residential lands within the project areas. It will also increase the soil’s resistance to erosion and minimize postharvest losses and shall add up to the income of the farmers.
“These subprojects are expected to be completed within 3-4 months upon the start of construction”, said Engr. Gaston B. Cael, RPCO-CAR I-BUILD Component Head.
With 10% equity each from the LGU and from the Government of the Philippines through the DA, 80% of the total project cost will come from the World Bank. (Elvy S. Taquio, DA PRDP RPCO-CAR InfoACE Unit)
