World Bank to visit PRDP projects in Sarangani

Kiamba, Sarangani – World Bank is set to visit two projects here on May 9-11, 2017 as the first leg of the 4th World Bank Implementation Support Mission to assess the implementation of DA’s Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) in Mindanao.

These two subprojects are the P35-million abaca enterprise project geared toward the enhancement of production, processing and marketing of high quality abaca fiber under PRDP’s enterprise development component, and the four-kilometer Kayupo-Maligang-Sitio Malayo farm-to-market road (FMR) under PRDP’s infrastructure component.

“This (World Bank) Mission will test our resiliency in the implementation of government projects and our efficiency in actualizing Sulong Sarangani (Move Forward Sarangani),” Sarangani Vice Governor Dr. Elmer De Peralta said.

Sulong Sarangani is the flagship program of Sarangani Governor Steve Solon which focuses on poverty alleviation.

In a meeting held as part of the Pre-World Bank Mission conducted recently, Dr. De Peralta assured the PRDP that the Sarangani LGU will immediately comply all the recommendations to refine the performance of the projects.

PRDP’s National Project Coordination Office (NPCO), Project Support Office (PSO) Mindanao and the Regional Project Coordinating Office (RPCO) 12 led the activity.

“This Pre-World Bank Mission aims to prepare the PLGU and all project enablers for the upcoming big event next month… our project will be assessed by the World Bank and we need your cooperation,” Engr. Cirilo Namoc, PRDP national deputy project director, said.

The four-kilometer Kayupo-Maligang-Sitio Malayo farm-to-market road (FMR) in Brgy. Maligang will serve farmers here who deliver their products like coconut, abaca, coffee, corn and banana to the town’s market.

Engr. Milagros Casis, regional executive director of the Department of Agriculture 12, said that the project implementers must have an intensive preparation to attain PRDP’s high mark from the World Bank.

She also said that PRDP has started to document emerging benefits from ongoing projects in the region to assess the attainment of the Project development outcomes and to mainstream service reforms in the process.

“The PRDP will ensure that good governance will be mainstreamed through transparency and accountability measures” said Casis. (Carl Ulysses Aguillon/DA RPCO 12)
