P56-M COMMUNAL IRRIGATION SYSTEM TO BOOST CROP PRODUCTIVITY IN NUEVA ECIJA

Carranglan, NUEVA ECIJA – With the construction of the P56-million San Agustin Communal Irrigation System, it is seen to increase at least 180% cropping intensity and 50% yield increase in rice production upon its completion this 4th quarter of 2019.

The San Agustin CIS is tapped to irrigate farms in lowlands as well as rain-fed areas which is beneficial to farmers who depends on farming as primary source of living.

At least 2,569 farmers are are seen to benefit from the CIS.

With this, farmers can soon experience hassle-free irrigation that is expected to improve crop productivity.

According to I-BUILD Rural Infrastructure Engineer Bon Alexis Guatato, the communal irrigation system (CIS) is about 949 hectares that can provide irrigation to barangays including Bantug, R.A Padilla, General Luna, F.C Otic Poblacion, T.L Padilla Poblacion, D.L Maglanoc Poblacion and G.S Rosario Poblacion.

Just recently, on July 30, 2019, Philippine Rural Development Project – Regional Project Coordination Office (PRDP – RPCO 3) conducted a joint inspection together with the Project Support Office (PSO) and Provincial Project Management and Implementing Unit (PPMIU) of Nueva Ecija that incurred 30.03% validated accomplishment.

At present, the improvement of the San Agustin CIS gained a physical accomplishment of 48.23%. (Ma. Reina Len Luna, RPCO3 InfoACE)
