Date Published: July 7, 2020

Carranglan, NUEVA ECIJA – The P56-M Communal Irrigation System (CIS) is now deemed substantially completed as it achieved 95% on its physical accomplishment.

This was revealed in a joint inspection conducted by the Regional Project Coordination Office (RPCO 3) led by Action Officer Gil G. David together with I-BUILD Component Head Engineer Abraham Molina, Rural Infrastructure Engineer Bon Alexis Guatato, Geomapping and Governance Unit GIS Data Officer Engineer Maurice Pineda, Social and Environmental Safeguards (SES) Associate Prince Roy Cruz and the Municipal Project Management and Implementing Unit (MPMIU) on June 30, 2020, here.

According to Engr. Guatato the subproject is an initiative to greatly improve agricultural production and to increase the cropping intensity per year.

“The Irrigation Service Area (ISA) will cover portions of eight (8) barangays starting in San Agustin, Bantug, R.A. Padilla, F.C. Otic, T.L. Padilla, D.L. Maglanoc, G.S. Rosario and at the end portions of General Luna with a total of 949 hectares,” Engr. Guatato added.

It can be recalled that one of the main problems of farmers here is the lack of water supply for their farms.

With the substantially completed CIS, the subproject will provide an opportunity for farmers to increase productivity of their agricultural products and will carry out assurance that farmers’ income will increase.

Additionally, crop intensity on rain-fed areas will increase from 1 to 2 croppings in rice production; hence, an increase in rice production could be attained.

At least 12,846 residents in this town will benefit from this new irrigation project.

The Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) continues to develop subprojects to enable rural areas and widen focus points on economic effect, efficiency and sustainability to the agricultural sector. (MA. REINA LEN G. LUNA, RPCO3 InfoACE)
