DA-PRDP RPCO CALABARZON continues research on value chain of agri commodities

Date Published: October 5, 2023

The Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) Regional Project Coordination Office (RPCO) CALABARZON continues its value chain research on agricultural commodities or Value Chain Analyses (VCAs). This is to continuously guide the public and private sectors, particularly local government units and farmers, in developing and proposing agriculture projects.

VCAs are studies that report the processes undergone by a specific agricultural commodity, from the acquisition of input supplies to marketing, relationships between value chain players, issues being experienced in the value chain, and opportunities to further develop and improve the value chain. In developing and updating VCAs, the DA-PRDP partners with the DA Regional Field Office IV-A, local government units, and other agencies to ensure the credibility and reliability of data.

The DA-PRDP RPCO CALABARZON has already developed 15 VCAs on the following commodities: dairy cattle, coffee, virgin coconut oil, banana, mango, seaweeds, pineapple, cacao, chicken egg, broiler chicken, lowland vegetables, beef cattle, abaca, goat, and coconut oil. All DA-PRDP-funded subprojects are anchored in these VCAs. VCAs also serve as one of the bases for the development of Provincial Commodity Investment Plans (PCIPs), which contain all local government interventions, projects, and programs aimed at developing the agriculture sector.

This year, the DA-PRDP is updating its VCAs on chicken egg and cacao based on the observed changes in the industry. The VCAs are expected to be completed by the end of the year. #
