DA-PRDP conducts Final Inspection of Php22-Million AA Slaughterhouse in Barcelona, Sorsogon
The inspectorate team from the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) conducted the final inspection for the construction of the AA Slaughterhouse in Barcelona, Sorsogon.
The Php22 million-worth facility is expected to benefit 5,207 households, comprising 22,722 individuals. It will also support 1,108 livestock raisers and meat vendors in the municipality.
According to the Local Government Unit of Barcelona, the municipality currently lacks a slaughterhouse for the proper slaughtering, storage, handling, and display of meat products. As a result, the distribution of pork and beef is limited to the local market. To ensure the safety and cleanliness of meat and its by-products, some vendors have resorted to utilizing slaughtering services from neighboring municipalities. With the completion of the new slaughterhouse, it will have the capacity to accommodate 20 to 60 heads per day.
During the exit meeting with the LGU and the contractor, the PRDP inspectorate team discussed the ordinances that need to be implemented for the proper operation and maintenance of the slaughterhouse. They also addressed minor findings that need to be resolved for project completion prior to the turnover this year.
Present during the joint inspection were the inspectorate team, which included the Project Support Office (PSO) South Luzon, Regional Project Coordination Office (RPCO) I-BUILD, Social Environmental Safeguards (SES), Geo-mapping and Governance Unit (GGU), and Econ Unit. Also present during the inspection were NMIS Bicol Meat Inspector III and Infrastructure Focal Person Antonio Suarez, who assessed whether the slaughterhouse complies with the standards set by the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS). #
