SLP proponent groups trained on financial management

Date Published: February 12, 2019

Around 25 farmer-members of cooperatives and associations with ongoing small livelihood projects or micro-enterprise subprojects under the Department of Agriculture’s Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) were trained on financial management on January 23-24, 2019 in Baguio City.

Proponent Groups (PGs) from Benguet, Ifugao and Mt. Province with ongoing and completed SLPs participated in the training.

Aside from the discussions on financial planning and management, the activity workshops focused on strengthening the organizational structure and the monitoring and evaluation of the PGs.

For the first workshop, the participants prepared their own organizational paradigm highlighting the milestones of their organizations, their successes, positive vibes, and problems encountered. Each PG has presented their paradigm as they shared how their organization got to where they are now and where they are headed to.

During the presentation of their outputs, Dominga Maitang of Bagnen-Balintaugan Timpuyog Credit Coopertive (BaBaTiCCo) shared that each member should embrace their membership and be active with their organization – cooperative or association, not just because of the assistance from the government.

“Isapuso tayo kuma daytoy naki-joinan tayo ti organization, haan lang nga gapu ta ada iti assistance saka tayo lang active,” she said.

Myrna Basanes, Enterprise Development Facilitator explained that financial viability is important for organizational survival and growth along with customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction, and the organization’s contribution to society to sustain itself overtime.

Other topics discussed during the training included the basic financial statement specifically on income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow among others.

Similar trainings are scheduled to be conducted for the other PGs in Abra and Apayao with ongoing and completed SLPs. # ELVY S. TAQUIO
