RPCO 2 I-PLAN Component holds 2nd inception meeting with NVSU researchers

Date Published: July 9, 2019

After the initial meeting held on May 15, 2019, at Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU),  the Regional Project Coordination Office 2 (RPCO 2) I-PLAN Component staff brainstormed the presentation of the NVSU researchers led by Dr. Cristina R. Salvosa as regards the team’s proposed study “Assessing the Performance of Agribased Cooperatives in Region 2″  on June 28, 2019, at the RTD  Conference Hall,   DA RFO 2.

“The rationale behind this activity is to have a reference for strengthening the strategic focus of enterprise investments. As reflected in the Aide Memoire of the World Bank during its 7th mission, there are limited Proponent Groups. This will be a basis for the sustainability of cooperatives,” Mr. Jeff Factora, Planning Specialist said during the meeting.

“The study will also fortify data needed for the improvement of Value Chain Analysis,” Dr. Sheridan Fulgencio, I-PLAN Planning Officer said.

“For starters, 92 out of 111 cooperatives in Region 2 are compliant, 62 were issued COC,” Dr. Salvosa said. With Salvosa are Dr. Rachel Tiongson and Dr. Sonny Salvosa.

As the lead researcher, Salvosa explained that cooperatives greatly contribute to productivity, governed with the core values of self-help, responsibility, equity and democratic control.

In assessing the performance of the cooperatives in Region 2, Salvosa and company will use profiling, Focus Group Discussion, Key Informant Interview, Document scanning and triangulation method as data collection procedures. In data analysis, the group will use descriptive statistics. (Dr. Ferdinand N. Cortez, RPCO2 InfoACE)
