PRDP inaugurates 2 warehouses with solar dryers in Davao del Sur

Davao del Sur- The Department of Agriculture-Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) recently turnover to the Local Government Unit of Kiblawan the two Warehouses with solar dryers.

The facilities are under package four (4) amounting to P3.2 million each with corresponding office and comfort room that now benefit the barangays in Brgy. Bunot, Brgy. Bonifacio, and Brgy. Panaglib.

The turnover was facilitated by PRDP Project Director Ricardo M. Oňate, Jr. with Davao del Sur Governor Douglas Cagas, and representative from Provincial Engineering Office, Barangay officials and municipal officials from Kiblawan.

This project is part of the construction of fourteen (14) units Warehouse with Solar Dryer worth P43.45 million being implemented in the province through PRDP with support from the Provincial Government of Davao del Sur.

The fourteen facilities are divided into 6 packages which include package 1 with Barangay La Suerte, Towak and Kauswagan in Matanao; package 2 with Brgy. New Clarin and Dolo in Bansalan; package 5 with Brgy. Poblacion and Bala in Magsaysay; and Brgy. Lower Malinao in Padada for package 6.

“I would like to congratulate all the people who work together to fast track our implementation. I know that this will really help our farmers. My only hope is for the beneficiaries to take good care of this project so that it can also help other farmers in the future,” said Project Director Oňate.

This infrastructure support aims to increase the market value of banana, rice, corn, and coconut in the province by providing postharvest facilities to reduce postharvest losses by 10% per cropping of coconut, 13% per cropping average drying of corn, 15% per average drying of grains, and to lessen transportation cost for banana by 50%, rice by 20%, coconut by 45%, and corn by 46%.

Other emerging benefit of this project is the employment of skilled and unskilled workers for the construction of all this facilities.  This will also benefit the 4,903 household in the six municipalities in the province.
