PRDP CALABARZON conducts orientation to various municipalities

Date Published: May 28, 2019

Ten municipalities from Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon provinces were oriented by the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) CALABARZON Regional Project Coordination Office (RPCO) for the possible interventions that they can receive from the project during the first quarter of 2019.

“While we do have the biggest portfolio in the cluster for both infrastructure and enterprise interventions, there are still more municipalities that we have not yet partnered with. These are the ones we are excited about,” Regional Project Director Felix Ramos said.

In Rizal province, the Infrastructure Development (I-BUILD) component went to the municipality of Morong to discuss the process for a possible farm-to-market road subproject for the town. Moreover, Component Head Joel Fuentes discussed with Mayor Armando San Juan the further opportunities for the municipality. Currently, there are no other subprojects either approved or pipelined from the province.

Furthermore, municipalities of San Jose and San Juan from the Batangas province were given an orientation by the Enterprise Development (I-REAP) component of the region. The component shared the processes in availing subprojects from PRDP with special focus on the need and capacity of the chosen proponent group to provide their equity to the mayors and local officials. Batangas province currently has the second highest portfolio of enterprises in the region.

Likewise, the I-REAP component, supported by the Provincial Project Management Implementation Unit (PPMIU), also visited seven municipalities in Quezon province to present its processes. Present in the visit is the proponent group validation as it is the provincial government that will provide the equity. Quezon province currently has the highest portfolio of subprojects, both infrastructure and enterprise in CALABARZON.

Supporting these activities were the National and Local Planning (I-PLAN) component for the discussion of interventions included in Provincial Commodity Investment Plan (PCIP); Social and Environmental Safeguards (SES) Unit for requirements and frameworks on social and environmental parameters; Geomapping and Governance Unit (GGU) on applied geotagging technology; Economist for compliances and economic feasibility; and Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Unit for other guidelines.

Proposals from these areas will be subjected to validation activities, document preparation activities, joint technical reviews, and approval of the Regional Project Advisory Board (RPAB). # [Lawrence Albert Bariring, DA-PRDP CALABARZON RPCO InfoACE Unit]
