PRDP CALABARZON approves new subprojects via teleconferencing

Date Published: April 17, 2020

First time in the history of the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP), the CALABARZON Regional Project Advisory Board (RPAB) approved new subprojects via CISCO Webex video teleconferencing on April 15, 2020 amid the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This is a unique and challenging time. Even if our board meeting is different than the usual, we are still here to do our part in ensuring the needs of our communities are still served,” PRDP South Luzon Project Support Office Project Director and concurrent RPAB Chairperson, Arnel de Mesa, expressed on his message.

“This initiative is indeed in the interest of service,” RPAB Member and CALABARZON Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Section Chief, Mailene Laviña, added.

During the activity, each representative from the local government units (LGUs) presented their proposals.

After careful deliberation of the RPAB, five LGUs were able to get the nod of the board for their proposed infrastructures. These will be located in the provinces of Batangas, Laguna, and Quezon.

The P78.65 million-worth farm-to-market road (FMR) subproject in Rosario, Batangas was one of the approved proposals by the board. In partnership with the provincial government of Batangas, this road will allow communities from the southern portion of the town to access the markets uptown and in the neighboring municipalities and cities.

A new potable water system (PWS) that costs P56.57 million was also given the green light to provide adequate, safe, and sustainable water supply, free from water-borne diseases, for the 960 households in eight barangays of Majayjay, Laguna.

Meanwhile, the RPAB allowed the municipal government of Luisiana, Laguna to repackage their PWS subproject. This P36.76 million-worth repackaging will allow the LGU to complete their water system and cover more households and barangays with continuous supply of potable water.

To support both the agricultural and fishing communities in three barangays, the FMR proposal of San Francisco, Quezon also received the approval of the board. This 14.08 kilometer road that amounts to P248.88 million will also increase the services delivered by the government to the communities as well as provide other economic opportunities.

The board also approved the P163.87 million-worth FMR proposal, with a length of 10.647-kilometer, of the municipal government of Tagkawayan. It will provide easy access for social services and market connection for 885 households, majority of which are farming and fishing families.

Director de Mesa chaired the meeting together with board members from the Regional Agricultural and Fishery Council, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Department of Agrarian Reform, Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Trade and Industry, and DENR.

Also present in the video conference were PRDP CALABARZON’s Regional Project Director Felix Ramos, Regional Deputy Project Director Abelardo Bragas, and concerned components and units heads and staff. The Management Information System of the regional office provided support for the teleconference. # (Lawrence Albert A. Bariring, DA-PRDP CALABARZON RPCO InfoACE Unit)
