PRDP 10 grants farmers’ dream through FMR

Date Published: November 9, 2020
With the aim of giving the farmers and residents easier mobility in farming and in daily activities, the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project 10 (DA- PRDP 10) officially turned-over the Crossing San Miguel – Kalagonoy Farm to Market Road (FMR) to the Local Government Unit of Gingoog City on November 5, 2020.
In his message, Gingoog Mayor Erick G. Cañosa said “This is a dream come true for all of Gingoognons. This will greatly help our city especially that Gingoog is an agricultural city. This kind of project is in line with one of our priority programs which is the Opportunities for Agriculture and Tourism Development, given that Gingoog is an agricultural city. Thus, we proposed to increase our budget for agriculture in the succeeding years. We believe that agriculture can reboot the economy of the Philippines during and after the pandemic, so we have to start investing in agriculture as early as now. Through this, it can eventually change the lives of every family in our city and we can only achieve this goal with the assistance of the Department of Agriculture.”

In response to the mayor’s message, DA-10 Regional Executive Director and DA-PRDP 10 Project Director Carlene C. Collado, CPA said “We support your call in pushing for agricultural development for Gingoog. We already received three of your proposals and we will set a meeting as soon as possible to discuss the details of the project.” Collado is also thankful to the LGU Gingoog for completing the PRDP FMR.
“It is not easy to be able to finish a PRDP subproject; from proposal preparation up until the turn over ceremony, the process is tedious. But the result will always be worth it, from the high quality of the road, to the positive effects of the lives of our residents, especially our farmers. With this, I have a request to our local officials; to take care of our road by creating resolutions that will impose control of big trucks in passing because it can easily damage the road. This will be your legacy so take good care of it.”

Meanwhile on a separate interview, Barangay Captain of Kalagonoy Marcial Dotarot said “it is an answered prayer when PRDP stepped in to provide us with this road. A lot of us here dreamed for this road to be materialized because we had a hard time bringing our products to the market. Before, the road is too rough that it damages our produce which resulted to lesser selling price. But with the new road, it is a big help to all of us farmers. So we will be doing our best to protect and maintain this blessing.”
The said FMR is 5.3 km in length with a total budget cost of Php 66,982,035.63. The said road is expected to benefit the farmers of coconut, rubber, banana, and corn. This is the eighth PRDP FMR turned over in Misamis Oriental.
Also present in the said turn-over ceremony are Gingoog Vice Mayor Peter M. Unabia, several board members and officials of LGU Gingoog, barangay officials and residents of Kalagonoy and San Miguel, and DA-PRDP 10 staff. (Cyrus Seraspe, RPCO 10)
