“To all other farmer groups who want to avail an enterprise under the PRDP, focus on an enterprise that helps people. It will motivate you to endure hardships knowing that your purpose is to help,” Chairman John Bello of Kailain Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MPC) said during the Groundbreaking Ceremony of its Goat Multiplier Farm at Barangay Elefante, Banayoyo, Ilocos Sur on October 4, 2018.

The Kailian MPC is the proponent of the Goat Multiplier Farm and Trading Post enterprise with a total investment cost of Php18,512,991.27. The goat multiplier farm is the biggest enterprise subproject in Ilocos Region under the PRDP. It will feature a goat house, a trading post, and a quarantine building. These facilities will be situated in a 15,485 m2 lot owned by the Cooperative. The total floor area of the civil works component of the enterprise is 821 m2 amounting to Php9,474,400.00.

Aside from the civil works, the Cooperative will also be awarded with a six-wheeler delivery truck, forage and pasture production inputs, forage chopper, weighing scale and Php300,000 trading capital.

Breeding, trading, and consolidating F2 goats are the main money-making activities of the enterprise. In its first year of operation, the goat farm will house 50 Anglo Nubian goats for breeding. At the same time, the Cooperative will buy goats from its members and sell them to restaurants.

Without the PRDP goat enterprise subproject, the net income of a typical goat raiser for every three (3) heads of native goat is assumed at Php4,860. With the PRDP subproject, the net income of a goat raiser for every two (2) heads of upgraded goats and one (1) native goat is expected to be Php13,889. This is an increase of 186% in the income of goat raisers.

Aside from increasing the income of goat raisers, the enterprise also aims to increase by 20% the number of goat farmers with improved access to DA livestock development services; to increase by at least 30% annually the marketing of locally induced goats; to create seven (7) direct employment in the project annually; to increase production by at least 20% of upgraded goats annually; and to increase by at least 25% of the live weight of upgraded goats.

Ilocos Sur Governor Ryan Luis V. Singson who led the groundbreaking ceremony committed to help and support the Kailian MPC in its future endeavors. He said, “This is just the beginning of a harmonious partnership of the Province of Ilocos Sur with the Kailian MPC. Again, Congratulations!”

The construction of the civil works is targeted to be accomplished within eight (8) months or 246 calendar days. Meanwhile, the goods and other equipment for the enterprise are still under procurement. #Dessa U. Estrada, RPCO 1 InfoACE
