P4.9-M POST-HARVEST FACILITY REGISTERS 65% COMPLETE

Carranglan, NUEVA ECIJA – The construction of Post-Harvest Facility for Aromatic Pigmented Rice of the Department of Agriculture -Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) thru the Enterprise Component recently registered 65% physical progress and is expected to operate this year.

Spearheaded by the Regional Project Coordination Office (RPCO 3), the joint inspection which was conducted on January 14, 2021 is aimed to gauge the progress of the project.

According to Rural Infrastructure Engineer Bon Alexis Guatato, the Establishment of Common Service Facilities for Post-Harvest Operations is focused in hauling, milling and marketing of aromatic pigmented rice to be sold in several stores in Carranglan and nearby depots in San Jose City.

Additionally, the I-REAP noted that the project includes the provision of rice mill facility, weighing scales, moisture meter, pallets, trading capital, transport facility for hauling and delivery and other equipment for the milling processes.

With the establishment of the facility, it is expected to increase marketing of locally produced aromatic rice by at least 20% for the next 10 years to help the farmers market their produce at a reasonable price.

This project of DA-PRDP is geared towards ensuring stable rice supply while augmenting the income of farmers. (MA. REINA LEN G. LUNA, RPCO3 InfoACE)
