I-PLAN, M&E PRESENT VCA REPORT FOR ONION IN NUEVA ECIJA

NUEVA ECIJA – The Value Chain (VC) Assessment Team of the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) presented and tackled the VC Assessment results and recommendations to the Provincial Government of Nueva Ecija held at the Seed Center of Nueva Ecija Central Luzon State University (CLSU), here.

Spearheaded by the Project Support Office (PSO) led by I-PLAN Component Head William Valdez together with the Regional Project Coordination Office (RPCO 3), the presentation intends to tackle constraints and recommendations for future implementations by establishing a sustainable support project for onion.

Among the highlighted recommendations during the presentation is the proposed establishment of an Onion Institute that will aid in the advancement of onion and allow value-adding to be a globally competitive commodity.

With this, the Provincial Project Management and Implementing Unit (PPMIU) of Nueva Ecija expressed positivity in allocating funds for the establishment of the Onion Institute which is foreseen to greatly improve the varieties of onion and its market value.

The outpouring of onion produce has favorably affected the local farmers in the province of Nueva Ecija considering it as among the top onion producers in the country.

The DA-PRDP likewise encourages the use of VC Assessment approach to direct local government units and stakeholders in formulating their infrastructure and investment plans.
