Household Income up by 35.36% for Conconig East Farmers

Members of the Conconig East Multi-Purpose Cooperative increased their household income by 35.36% based on the results of the Rapid Appraisal of Emerging Benefits (RAEB) held in Sta. Lucia, Ilocos Sur on April 30-May 2, 2019.

The recorded increase in income almost hit the target 36% increase in household income through reduction in production and post-production costs. From Php89,519.92, the average household income of farmer members increased to Php121,171.44 or by 35.36% after the receipt of the PRDP enterprise.

Other targets gauged during the RAEB are increase in peanut production, jobs generated, and decrease in the cost of planting materials. The targeted six percent (6%) increase in production was not attained by the Cooperative. The members told the Project that a consolidation facility/warehouse is to attain the target increase in production.

On a positive note, the Cooperative generated ten (10) jobs exceeding the target that was seven (7) jobs. Likewise, the Cooperative successfully reduced the cost of planting materials to the delight of farmers.

The Conconig East Multi-Purpose Cooperative received the Php2,288,569 Integrated Quality Peanut Seed Production and Farm Service Enterprise from PRDP in November 2017. As part of the enterprise, the cooperative received 90 units of drums, four-wheel tractor, two (2) units of tricab, weighing scales, and peanut seeds.

The RAEB is an approach used by the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) in gauging the social and economic impacts of an enterprise or infrastructure to the beneficiaries and the attainment of subproject objectives. It is conducted after one (1) cycle or six (6) months to one (1) year with the beneficiaries of PRDP subprojects.

The Investments on Rural Enterprises for Agri-Fishery Productivity (I-REAP) Component, Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, Geomapping and Governance Unit, and the Social and Environmental Safeguards (SES) of the Luzon A Project Support Office and the Regional Project Coordination Office 1 facilitated the RAEB.
